Turning Center Features

1. To face. Metal is removed from the end of the workpiece (usually cylindrical), resulting in a flat surface.
2. Thread the thread. This is the process of making threads that are used to fasten or connect items.
3. Drill the holes. In most cases, a hole needs to be drilled on a lathe before other tasks such as tapping, boring, or reaming can be done. It is best to position or center the hole in the area to be drilled so that the drilled holes are aligned correctly.
4. Boredom. This enlarges the hole in an already drilled workpiece, allowing for greater hole diameter accuracy.
5. Reaming. Drilling in workpieces is often inaccurate (straight and cylindrical). Reaming is done with high precision and the size of the drilled holes is determined.
6. Taper turning. Taper is the uniform change in the shape of the diameter of a cylinder when measured along its axis. It creates a tapered surface by tilting the workpiece and cutting tool relative to each other as the tool travels along the surface of the workpiece, cutting deeper or shallower.
